OTTAWA, Dec. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will preside over the swearing-in of the new Chief Justice of Canada, the Honourable Richard Wagner, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Monday, December, 18, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.
As part of their constitutional duties, governors general, on the recommendation of the prime minister, approve the issuing of Letters Patent, under the Great Seal of Canada, to appoint the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. During the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Wagner will first be sworn in as Chief Justice, and then as a member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada.
