The QMA tackles overdiagnosis, a major issue for the health care system.
MONTREAL, March 31, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - On Wednesday, April 2, the Québec Medical Association (QMA) will hold Quebec's first symposium on overdiagnosis. Several participants from the health care system (clinicians, medical association representatives, professionals, patient advocacy groups) will meet to discuss the impact of overdiagnosis and overtreatment in the health care system to establish an action plan to deal with this phenomenon.
Renowned Speakers
Two renowned speakers, Dr. Iona Heath, a leading figure in the international movement addressing the issue of overdiagnosis and overtreatment, as well as Dr. Anthony B. Miller, Professor Emeritus at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, will speak at this event.
The Choosing Wisely Campaign
At 5 p.m., the QMA will launch the campaign Choisir avec soin, the francophone component of Choosing Wisely Canada, which aims to help doctors and patients discuss and exchange information about medical tests, treatments and procedures that are not necessary and together choose wisely and effectively to ensure the best quality of care.
