Media Advisory - Taping/Interview/Photo Opportunity - Winter Driving Academy
TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Winter is upon us and that means treacherous driving conditions. Are Torontonians ready to adjust their driving behaviour to the challenges of Canadian winter driving? On ice and snow, cautious drivers can become almost paralyzed with indecision, and confident drivers can become reckless. To highlight the correct winter driving techniques, Richard Spénard, a professional driver and driving instructor for Michelin Canada, will make a stop in Toronto to demonstrate how to drive safely on winter roads, no matter the weather conditions or driver personality.

Canuck drivers can be divided into five types, as determined by a recent survey conducted by Michelin, and these personalities impact winter driving: Worrywarts (19 per cent) lack confidence at the wheel and do not find driving pleasurable, Daredevils (14 per cent) love thrilling experiences, the Fast and Confident (22 per cent) like feeling in control but aren't afraid to go fast, Cautious Pragmatists (24 per cent) treat driving as a form of transportation only and Aficionados (21 per cent) love the world of cars and treat their vehicles well. Of note, the most Daredevils are in Ontario at 25 per cent of the Ontario drivers, as compared to other provinces. Customized pointers for each driver personality, and the specific help they need when it comes to tackling winter roads in Canada, can be found at www.facebook.ca/MichelinCanada and for additional safety driving tips, please visit the Michelin Winter Driving Academy (www.michelinwintercenter.com).
