TORONTO, May 11, 2015 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, the HBC Foundation and The Room along with Presenting Sponsor Rogers will welcome Mary Katrantzou to Toronto for Haute Health - a luncheon and presentation of the designer's Autumn/Winter 2015 runway collection. Proceeds from the sold-out fundraiser will support the Dotsa Bitove Wellness Academy and Nursing at UHN.
Currently in Canada, about 500,000 individuals suffer from dementia. It is projected that by 2038, over 1 million people will be diagnosed. UHN is committed to addressing this challenge on several fronts. Dotsa Bitove Wellness Academy, established in 2013, is Canada's first person-centered, relationship-based day program for individuals and families living with mild to moderate dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease and other memory-related disorders. The programming offers hope to those living with dementia – hope that they will remain engaged with their loved ones, have the opportunity to connect with others, stay in their homes longer and live more fulsome lives.
Funds will also benefit the Collaborative Academic Practice (CAP) Innovation Fellowship Program providing healthcare professionals (including nurses) the opportunity to improve the quality of patient care through research, leadership, inter-professional collaboration and innovation. "Without a doubt, healthcare professionals at the point of care are uniquely positioned to improve patient care. By empowering and supporting these individuals to pursue a research project aimed at quality improvement, we have seen outstanding results that have had impact on specific units, the wider UHN community and even beyond our walls." said Dr. Joy Richards, Vice President, Health Professions and Chief Nurse Executive.
