What: Traditionally, the holidays are the most dangerous time of year for fires and fire fatalities in Ontario. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires. The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and Toronto Fire Services (TFS) are holding a news conference to show the many ways the public can prevent fire from occurring in their home during the holiday season. There will be live demonstrations on cooking and candle safety and the importance of working smoke alarms. Who: The Honourable Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Pat Burke, Ontario Fire Marshal William Stewart, Toronto Fire Chief When: Thursday, December 10, 2009, 10:00 a.m. Where: Toronto Fire Station No.333 207 Front Street East, Toronto (On Front Street, one block east of Sherbourne Street) Media A home safety tour of a nearby house to identify potential fire Note: hazards in the home is available to the media immediately after the news conference or later in the day.
