OTTAWA, Sept. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - As patrons of Canada Army Run, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will cheer on more than 20 000 participants competing in the event this Sunday, September 17, 2017.
"Sharon and I are proud to be patrons of Canada Army Run and we look forward to cheering on the participants one final time before the end of our mandate," said the Governor General. "We have always admired the determination of those who participate in this event and we encourage everyone to continue to make their physical and mental health a priority."
At 7 a.m., Their Excellencies will meet with participants in the Ill/Injured/Disabled category of Canada Army Run, in downtown Ottawa. The Governor General will then address athletes competing in the five-kilometre run, at 7:25 a.m.
Ten-Kilometre and Half-Marathon Courses Running Through the Grounds of Rideau Hall
At 9 a.m., Their Excellencies will be in front of Sussex Gate to root for the thousands of participants in this year's newly added 10-kilometre event. At 10:15 a.m., they will make their way to Rideau Hall's forecourt to cheer on the half-marathon participants, whose course will lead them up the Main Drive and off the grounds via the Princess Gate.
