Media advisory - TODAY Parkdale Community Food Bank stages Gangnam-Style dance to launch fundraising initiative
TORONTO, Dec. 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Parkdale Community Food Bank volunteers, board members and supporters will be participating in a parody Gangnam-Style dance today at 11:30 a.m. at the food bank to launch its holiday fundraising campaign.
The dance will include support from local politicians at all levels - Parkdale-High Park MP Peggy Nash, Parkdale-High Park MPP Cheri DiNovo and Ward 19 City Councillor Mike Layton, who will be dancing alongside others.
The food bank is located at 1316 King Street West, a few blocks west of Dufferin Street. Members of the media are welcome.
The video will be directed by local writer and director Shaista Justin and will soon be available on YouTube and the food bank's website.
In keeping with the food bank's mandate, the chorus of the song Gangnam-Style will be changed to "hey hungry lady."
The Parkdale Community Food Bank serves more than 3,000 people each month, with the help of more than 70 volunteers. In the last three years, the food bank has seen its usage double, making it more difficult to keep enough food on the shelves. The food bank is also in the midst of its holiday turkey drive. The food bank will also be doing outreach to the local business community in the Parkdale area.
The organization is a registered charity and completely volunteer-driven.
