Media Advisory - TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay to Celebrate in Ajax on June 6
Pan Am flame to visit Pickering High School, daytime celebration at Town Hall and evening celebration at Audley Recreation Centre
TORONTO, May 30, 2015 /CNW/ - On Saturday, June 6, Day 8, of the Pan Am Games Torch Relay presented by President's Choice® and OLG, the Pan Am flame will spend the day in Ajax.
The Pan Am flame will begin its day in Ajax with the excitement kicking off at Pickering High School. The flame will then travel to Rotary Park and the Ajax Community Arena on its way to Town Hall for the day celebration. In the afternoon, the flame will take a ride in a Chevrolet convertible as well as a fire truck before the relay day concludes at Audley Recreation Centre where former Major League Baseball player Nigel Wilson, the community torchbearer, will light the community cauldron.
Saturday, June 6, 2015 (Relay Day 8: Ajax, ON)
Pickering High School – 10 a.m. (ET) (200-294 Church Street North, Ajax)
Start of day celebration:
- PACHI presentation with families
- Angel Huang, student, will be the first torchbearer of Day 8
Rotary Park Pavillion – 11:15 a.m. (ET) (177 Lake Driveway West, Ajax)
Photo opportunity:
- Torchbearer Jessica Tyler will be the first torchbearer to depart from this location
Ajax Community Arena – 1:20 p.m. (ET) (1-61 Centennial Road, Ajax)
Photo opportunity:
- There will be sport demonstrations provided by the Ajax Boxing Club
- Community torchbearer Daniel Milton will depart with Pan Am flame
Ajax Town Hall – (65 Harwood Avenue South, Ajax)
Day celebration:
- Torchbearer Thomas Hamilton will arrive with the Pan Am flame and light the community cauldron at 1:45 p.m.
- The Pan Am flame will travel in a Chevrolet convertible with torchbearer Louise Johnson
Ajax Operations and Environmental Services Centre – 4 p.m. (ET) (900 Salem Road North, Ajax)
Photo opportunity:
- Andrew Fagan will carry the Pan Am flame onboard a fire truck
Audley Recreation Centre – (2001 Audley Road, Ajax)
Evening celebration:
- Nigel Wilson, community torchbearer and former Major League Baseball player, will be the final torchbearer who will light the community cauldron at 5 p.m.
- Conjunto Lacalú will perform at the celebration
The Pan Am Games Torch Relay is a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. The torch relay is one of the most exciting events as it sets the stage leading up to the Games. There will be more than 3,000 torchbearers and 180 community celebrations taking place.

The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President's Choice® and OLG, is supported by community partner CIBC, signature supporters Star Media Group and Metroland Media, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Porter Airlines, and funding parties the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. The torch relay will invite Canadians to celebrate and share the Pan Am spirit throughout its 41-day journey towards Toronto, the Host City of the Games.
The torch relay starts May 30, 2015, and concludes July 10, 2015, with the dramatic lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto.
