MONTREAL, Feb. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Members of the media are invited to attend a news conference officially launching the activities of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) in the Province of Quebec. This will be an opportunity for the presentation of the mandate of the Commission, as well as plans for the TRC's Quebec National Event (April 24-27 in Montreal) and regional hearings.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an independent commission established as a result of the 2007 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. Its mandate is to inform all Canadians about what happened in the 150-year history of the residential schools, and to guide and inspire a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships based on mutual understanding and respect.
All participants will be available for interviews after the conference. Representatives of the Regional Advisory Committee including members of government, the Churches and Survivors will also be present.
