MEDIA ADVISORY - U of T to hold grand stadium event in memoriam of WWI
TORONTO, July 22, 2014 /CNW/ - On the evening of July 31, The Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History, the Munk School of Global Affairs, and the Canadian Armed Forces will hold a special public ceremony honouring the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War. Featuring reflections, a military Honour Guard, and performances by the massed band of the Canadian Armed Forces, "1914-1918: In Memoriam", will provide a moving commemoration of the sacrifice of Canadian men and women in World War I.
Hosted by former war-correspondent and Gemini-winner, Brian Stewart, the event will include remarks from noted historian Margaret MacMillan (University of Oxford) and the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Thomas J. Lawson, CMM, CD. Featured vocal performances by Ruth Ann Onley, and Jean Miso with the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus.
