Media Advisory - Unifor available to respond to school bus report
TORONTO, Aug. 10, 2017 /CNW/ - Unifor, the largest union in the school bus industry, is available to respond to the Ontario Ombudsman's report on the Toronto District and Toronto Catholic District school boards' oversight of student transportation.
At the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, the Request for Proposal (RFP) process used to award bus contracts led to chaos as thousands of students were left stranded due to a driver shortage, a crisis that Unifor had correctly predicted months earlier.
Debbie Montgomery, President of Unifor Local 4268 and former school bus driver, will be available to comment following the release of the Ombudsman's findings.
"We look forward to Ombudsman Dubé's report and hope that it will shine a light on the systemic problems within Ontario's school bus system," said Montgomery. "If we want to guarantee stable transportation for our students then the Wynne government needs to implement change."
