Media Advisory - Welcome Indigo - The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
and Algonquin College celebrate the arrival of Mirja's most heartfelt wish: a
horse named Indigo
TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - You are invited to join us: On Saturday April 3rd, 2010 at Skyline Farm Representatives from Children's Wish and Algonquin College's Event Management Program will be in attendance to hand over the reins to Mirja and to join in the celebration.
12-year old wish child Mirja was diagnosed in February of 2000 with ALL. She has been a "survivor" since 2007. Due to Mirja's illness and treatment she was never able to succeed in regular sports because she has difficulty running. Horseback riding gives her freedom and the ability to run thanks to the horse. Her parents are astounded at how much it has built her confidence.
Mirja's wish was made possible in part thanks to Algonquin College's "Creating Magic" partnership with Children's Wish. 97 students create 17 individual fundraisers taking place between February and March. The students are graded by an industry professional that attends each event and provides written evaluations. Last year, the program raised $52,000 for Children's Wish.
Sandy Ouellette and Erin Sparks, faculty members from the Algonquin Event Management Program, will be present for Mirja's Wish celebration.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 15,000 children and their families.
This year, the Foundation expects to grant 1,000 new wishes as it commemorates 25 years of service across Canada. The Foundation has never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family.
The Foundation is a grassroots charity with chapters in every province and territory. For information on Children's Wish, log onto www.childrenswish.ca.
