Media Advisory - Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) to host Big Cancer Hook-up
TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - On November 30th, YACC is bringing cancer survivors together in a big way! The Big Cancer Hook-up will be held in Toronto, where three cancer survivors are participating in a panel discussion on the various stages of dealing with cancer as a young adult - from diagnoses to life after treatment. In sharing their stories and experiences with others they offer support, knowledge and understanding. It will be a fantastic experience.
Eligible participants are young adults aged/diagnosed between the ages of 18-39 dealing with cancer, and their supporters. Anyone who can't attend the event are encouraged to arrange their own Cancer Hook-up party or watch from the comfort of their own homes.
Geoff Eaton, founder of YACC and two-time young adult cancer survivor will host the panel. The three panelists, who will share their stories, are:
Jamie Carswell: diagnosed with stage three invasive breast cancer in 2008 and had recurrence in 2013. Jamie has an eight-month-old son and is on parental leave from her job as an RCMP officer. She still faces eight months of chemotherapy.
Peter Laneas: diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2002. Peter is no longer in treatment, but has learned and grown so much since his diagnoses. Learn about his journey to where he is today.
Lynsey Frangakis: diagnosed with an incurable brain cancer in 2011. Currently enjoying a break in her treatment, she was recently married and has just returned to work. Learn about her many challenges and how she faces them.
Media are encouraged to attend. This amazing group of panelists will be available for interviews and will take questions from those in attendance and across the country via social media throughout the event.
