MONTREAL, April 5, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse is holding with the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), a study session on systemic discrimintion of migrant workers on Tuesday, April 12, in Montréal.
Speakers include: Denise Helly (INRS), Stephanie Bernstein (UQÀM), François Crépeau (UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Migrants), lawyer Julius Grey, Lucie Lamarche (Ottawa University), Jean Lortie (CSN), Yanick Noiseux (Université de Montréal), Adelle Blackett (McGill University) and the president of the Commission, Gaétan Cousineau.
The Commission recently released an opinion on the issue and has called on the Québec government to revise its immigration legislation to end the systemic discrimination against low-skilled migrant workers, in particular seasonal agricultural workers and live-in caregivers.
