Updated estimate of the cost of regulation and new report card grades will be featured
TORONTO, Jan. 19, 2021 /CNW/ - Red Tape Awareness Week™ will be back for its 12th year of challenging governments to reduce harmful and excessive regulation from January 25 to 29, announces the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
"COVID-19 has brought into sharp focus the importance of keeping red tape to a minimum—from fast-tracking vaccines and patio approvals to getting government support programs out quickly. As we turn our attention to recovery, reducing red tape can help stimulate the battered economy and create desperately needed jobs in a low-cost way," said Laura Jones, Executive Vice-President at CFIB.
This year's Red Tape Awareness Week lineup includes:
- Monday, January 25: CFIB releases new research updating its 2018 report on the cost red tape imposes on Canada's small businesses, including a breakdown by size of business. This report is the only regularly updated estimate of the cost of regulation to Canadian businesses.
- Wednesday, January 27: CFIB releases its annual Red Tape Report Card grading federal and provincial governments on their red tape accountability and reduction.
- Thursday, January 28: The Golden Scissors Award for the best government initiative to cut unnecessary red tape is announced.
