Many First Nations in Canada are facing water and wastewater issues, boil water advisories, and poor sanitation. A new approach supported by new investments is needed for First Nations water and wastewater infrastructure, as well as the repeal and replacement of the inadequate Safe Drinking Waters for First Nations Act. The Symposium will include plenary addresses from First Nations leaders and government representatives on: the recent developments and trends impacting First Nations and water; engaging dialogue on other key issues; and future direction for First Nations water governance and infrastructure.
There will be a keynote presentation from Te Pou Tupua, the official voice of the Whanganui River located in Aotearoa/New Zealand. As well, there will be technical workshops, dialogue sessions and an extensive tradeshow offering delegates the opportunity to learn, share, and network.
