MEDIA ADVISORY AND PHOTO-OP - George Brown College Naming and Dedication Ceremony: New Lucie and Thornton Blackburn Conference Centre at student residence named after 1830s pioneers in Toronto's Black Community
TORONTO, Nov. 3, 2016 /CNW/ - George Brown College is proud to host the Ontario Black History Society (OBHS) at a naming and dedication ceremony for the newly opened, Lucie and Thornton Blackburn Conference Centre located at the College's first student residence, The George.
The celebratory evening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with the President of the Ontario Black History Society, Nikki Clarke, George Brown College Chancellor Sally Horsfall-Eaton, community leaders, artists, authors and performers.
George Brown was a contemporary of Lucie and Thornton Blackburn, early Black entrepreneurs, anti-slavery leaders and champions of Toronto's development. Like Brown, they were strong community builders, activists and philanthropists. The naming and dedication ceremony of the new conference centre is a physical and symbolic tribute to their important legacy in our city's history and establishment.
