New applied research facility will produce future graduates ready to bring green energy and efficient building skills to Toronto's construction industry
TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - George Brown College is holding its official opening of its Green Building Centre – a new applied research facility to support the growing Canadian green and smart building market. The facility is training students in advanced green energy and computer-enabled, efficient building, while simultaneously enabling industry partners to conduct full-scale applied research technology development projects focused on environmentally responsible and resource-efficient construction practices.
Located within George Brown's Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies, the Green Building Centre's unique focus on applied research in sustainable construction will prepare students to become the highly qualified and skilled leaders this growing field needs.

WHAT:
The launch of a state-of-the-art applied research facility at George Brown College.
- Tour of the Green Building Centre including:
- Advanced Prototyping Lab equipped with leading edge rapid prototyping tools such as laser and water jet cutters and 3D printer, used to prototype and iterate sustainable new technologies.
- Building Materials Lab which provides a test site and demonstration space to refine prototypes and test innovative green building systems, materials and technologies in a realistic setting.
- Building Information Modeling Lab outfitted with LiDAR scanners, allowing for more accurate 3D scans of buildings and sites.
- Building Sciences Lab equipped with humidity and temperature chambers, a specimen convection oven and a rooftop test hut structure for research on materials used to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
- Building Automation Lab to test products that make buildings "smarter" and more energy efficient.
