Media Advisory and Photo Opportunity - Award winning author Shyam Selvadurai to sign 100 free books at RBC branch

TORONTO, April 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Renowned Toronto author Shyam Selvadurai is being acknowledged this year with a 2014 Bonham Centre Award for his distinguished contributions to the public understanding of sexual diversity in Canada.

To celebrate this achievement, RBC will be giving away 100 copies of Selvadurai's novel The Hungry Ghosts at a special book signing event with the author on April 26, 2014 from 1:00 - 2:30 pm.

About Shyam Selvadurai

Shyam Selvadurai was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1965 and came to Canada with his family at the age of nineteen. Funny Boy, his first novel, was published to acclaim in 1994 and won the WH Smith/Books in Canada First Novel Award and in the US the Lambda Literary Award. His most recent novel, The Hungry Ghosts, was published in 2013 and was shortlisted for Canada's prestigious Governor General's Award for Fiction and longlisted for the DSC South Asia Literature Prize.  His articles have appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Time Magazine, Toronto Life, Walrus Magazine, Enroute Magazine, The Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.

Established in 1998, The Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies (SDS) at the University of Toronto is a hub forging connections among faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, and community members interested in questions about how we understand sexual diversity and sexual practices. SDS provides opportunities to explore these questions across disciplinary boundaries, by the courses it sponsors, the programs it offers, and the public presentations it organizes.
