OTTAWA, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The Information Commissioner of Canada Suzanne Legault will be joining Canadians across the country and her provincial and territorial counterparts to celebrate the Right to Know Day on September 28, 2012.
Right to Know Day began on September 28, 2002, in Sofia, Bulgaria at an international meeting of access to information advocates who proposed that a day be dedicated to the promotion of freedom of information worldwide.
In Canada, an entire week of activities is organized to raise awareness about citizens' right to access public information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance. This year marks the seventh year that Canadians have celebrated the Right to Know Week, and there are a great number of events planned coast to coast.
