Media Advisory - Canadian experts to come together at Rideau Hall and join forces to create a safer and more respectful digital world

OTTAWA, ON, April 10, 2024 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will host a one-day event called The Governor General's Symposium: Building a Safe and Respectful Digital World, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Rideau Hall.

In recent months, the issue of online abuse has been gaining momentum, as more and more individuals have bravely shared their experiences. This symposium will bring together individuals who have been impacted by online abuse and subject-matter experts from across the country. The event will raise awareness of the prevalence and impacts of online abuse, facilitate the creation of networks of resilience, and encourage professionals from a range of disciplines to work collaboratively to develop solutions.

10:10 a.m.	Fireside discussion between the Governor General and Lisa LaFlamme
10:30 a.m.	Panel 1: The Lived Experience of Online Abuse

The panel discussions will be moderated by Emilie Nicolas, a renowned anthropologist, anti-racism advocate and media commentator.
