Media Advisory - Canadian technology plays critical role in the selection of final sample site on asteroid Bennu Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, Dec. 12, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, after a year spent studying asteroid Bennu, NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission team will reveal the final sample collection site.
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) contributed the OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA) to this mission. It played a critical role in helping mission scientists identify and select the best sample site by scanning the asteroid's surface to create high-resolution 3D maps.
The CSA's experts are available to talk about this exciting announcement and the next steps leading up to the sampling on Bennu, scheduled for summer 2020. The sample will then be returned to Earth in September 2023. Thanks to the CSA's contribution to the mission, Canada will receive a portion of the returned sample.
Media representatives are invited to watch this NASA announcement and to contact the CSA media relations team to speak with our experts.
