OTTAWA, April 4, 2019 /CNW/ -
Who: |
Marcelo Lu, Chair of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada and President of BASF Canada |
What: |
Mr. Lu and Mr. Masterson will be presenting their industry's concerns about the federal government's proposed Clean Fuel Standard at a press conference. |
Why: |
The Canadian chemistry industry agrees that climate change is an urgent issue and supports current policies such as the federal carbon pricing backstop. However, carbon pricing duplication as proposed within the federal Clean Fuel Standard will push the total carbon price to an excess of $200 per tonne, effectively doubling the cost of natural gas for the industry. This would add millions of dollars of expenses on an industry that is already facing global competitiveness concerns. CIAC believes Canada should support a carbon policy that recognizes emission-intensive, trade-exposed sectors and encourages investment. |
When: |
10:00am - Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 |
Where: |
135-B Press Conference Room |
