OTTAWA, ON, March 20, 2025 /CNW/ - A session on the impact of shifting U.S. health policy, including deep cuts to national agencies, will kick off Health Summit 2025 — a two-day interactive conference on the future of health care in Canada.
Dr. Tom Frieden, former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Apoorva Mandavilli, science and global health reporter with The New York Times, will share their insights into the chaos unfolding in the U.S. health system and the implications for global health. A Canadian panel — including Canadian Medical Association (CMA) President Dr. Joss Reimer and Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Dr. Andrew Furey — will discuss the potential fallout here at home and how to leverage the federal election to protect and strengthen our health system. André Picard, health columnist at The Globe and Mail, will moderate the session.
Health Summit 2025, hosted by the CMA, takes place in Ottawa and online, March 27-28. The event will help participants understand emerging issues and champion health care in a changing political environment. Sessions will cover issues from navigating the AI revolution, to health care as an economic advantage, to advancing Indigenous self-determination.
Keynote speakers include Anthony Morgan, science communicator and co-host of The Nature of Things; and Dr. Daniel Yang, VP of AI and Emerging Technology, at Kaiser Permanente.
