LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 21, 2023 /CNW/ - On September 24, 2023, NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission will deliver a sample of asteroid Bennu on Earth. Analyzing the sample could revolutionize our understanding of the solar system's history, how our planet formed, and possibly the origin of water and life on Earth.
Media interested in interviews with Canadian experts, including members of the Canadian science team, may contact the Canadian Space Agency's (CSA) Media Relations Office (information below).
Canadian media may also participate in the following NASA media events related to the sample return:
- Pre-landing media call on September 22, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. ET
- Post-landing news conference on September 24, 2023, at about 5:00 p.m. ET
To participate, media must RSVP at least two hours before the events to [email protected]. The news conference will also air on NASA TV. See NASA's media advisory from September 18, 2023, for more details.
Canadian media who wish to attend NASA's sample reveal event on October 11, 2023, must apply for accreditation by September 29, 2023. See NASA's media advisory from September 14, 2023, for more details.
OSIRIS-REx marks the first time Canada is participating in an asteroid sample return mission. Thanks to the CSA's contribution of the OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA), Canada will become the fifth country in the world to receive and curate a sample collected in space. This material from Bennu will be studied by generations of Canadian and international scientists.
