With Bill 41, Ontario passes landmark legislation with all-party support to protect victims of human trafficking from coerced debt.
TORONTO, Dec. 7, 2023 /CNW/ - On Friday, December 8, the Concord Adex Survivors Fund, along with government partners, business leaders, and community members will hold a media availability at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to announce that Bill 41, The Protection From Coerced Debts Incurred In Relation to Human Trafficking Act, has successfully passed its third and final reading in the Ontario legislature with all-party support.
This Bill provides a legislative framework to prohibit the collection of coerced debts, and prohibits coerced debts from being taken into consideration when determining whether to provide credit services or products.
WHAT: In an effort to shed light on this critical issue, Concord Adex Survivor's Fund and Billy Bishop Airport invite media to hear government officials, business leaders and community members share their insights on, and efforts to combat, human trafficking in our community. Recent legislative advancements, particularly the passing of Bill 41, will be discussed in detail, outlining the Bill's implications for victims of trafficking and the steps needed for its successful implementation.
