HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 23, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, The Defund the Police Hamilton Coalition will rally in front of Hamilton City Hall to oppose Hamilton Police Services' (HPS) request for a budgetary increase. The rally will occur as Hamilton City Council debates an additional four-million-dollar allocation to HPS, which already receives about 20 percent of the City of Hamilton's taxpayer dollars. HPS reported an annual surplus of $567,875 in 2020.

The Defund the Police Hamilton Coalition is a youth-led grassroots organization made up of Black and racialized people and allies. Their purpose is to end the economic prioritization of policing over the lives of Black, racialized, houseless, and disabled people in Hamilton.
