MONTREAL, Jan. 31, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - The steering committee of APPELE-Québec – the Alliance for the Promotion of Public English-language Education in Québec – invites you to a press conference where a wide range of community leaders and organizations will reiterate its strong stand against Bill 40 - An Act to amend mainly the Education Act with regard to school organization and governance and propose a path forward.
With Education Minister Jean-François Roberge leading the charge, the Coalition Avenir Québec government clearly intends to proceed with the adoption of this contentious piece of legislation that would abolish our school boards. Together with our community stakeholders we maintain that English-speaking Quebecers have a constitutional right to control and manage our schools. We remain resolute in our opposition to Bill 40. At this critical juncture, our community believes it is time to take a public stand against this assault on our rights.
