MEDIA ADVISORY - EVENT HOSTED BY ONTARIO BRAIN INSTITUTE TO UNVEIL MAJOR INVESTMENT FROM GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO

TORONTO, Jan. 15, 2024 /CNW/ -The Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) is hosting an event on January 18 at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto to recognize the receipt of a major investment from the Government of Ontario.

The investment, to be provided over a three-year period with an option to renew for two more years, recognizes OBI's mission to accelerate solutions that improve brain health. This allocation of funding follows an investment of $5 million outlined in the March 2023 provincial budget for OBI's new Centre for Analytics (CfA), recognizing OBI's work towards establishing Ontario as a global leader in neuroinformatics.

Who: The announcement will feature remarks from the Hon. Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities, Dr. Tom Mikkelsen, OBI's President and Scientific Director, and Sarah Downey, President and CEO of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Attending the event will be representatives from the research community, neurotech entrepreneurs, patient partners, community organizations and members of government.

What: An event announcing a major investment by the Government of Ontario towards the Ontario Brain Institute. Time will be allocated for a media Q&A.

When: January 18, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. EST. 

Where: George & Tami Cope Community Lounge, located on the 1st floor of the Crisis & Critical Care Building (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, 1051 Queen St. West, Toronto)

Why: The Government's support will allow OBI to continue creating seamless connections between research, commercialization and care to improve the lives of the one in three Ontarians living with a brain disorder. This includes oversight of their flagship Integrated Discovery Programs (IDPs) that are clinically oriented, have national representation, and have demonstrated the potential to have positive impacts on brain health research in Ontario.
