MEDIA ADVISORY: Facebook and Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce to host free workshop for Lower Mainland Small Businesses
VANCOUVER, Jan. 15, 2015 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, January 20, Facebook's Small Business Boost will take place in Coquitlam B.C., a session dedicated to teaching small business owners in the Lower Mainland how to optimize their presence on the world's social largest network.
The event will be co-hosted by Michael Hind, Executive Director of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce, who will make remarks and speak with attendees. The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., Minister of National Revenue and MP for Delta—Richmond East on behalf of the Honourable James Moore will discuss the importance of small business for the local economy. Additionally, attendees will hear first-hand from local businesses that have found success through Facebook including Westwood Cycle, The Juice Truck, and Pomme Natural.
The Coquitlam Small Business Boost is part of a Facebook small business cross-country roadshow, which will also include stops in other major Canadian cities.
Facebook is starting this roadshow in British Columbia as the province ranked first in the country in terms of small businesses per capita in 2013,with 83.4 small businesses per 1,000 people (Small Business Profile 2014: British Columbia Canada). Additionally, British Columbia small businesses generated approximately 31 per cent of the province's gross domestic product in 2013, well above the Canadian average of 29 per cent (Small Business Profile 2014: British Columbia Canada).
