TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2024 /CNW/ - Together with the community and clients, workers at Anishnawbe Health Toronto (AHT) will hold an info-picket to demand fair pay, pensions for all and improved worker wellbeing. For far too long, these workers have been seeking their first contract, but management refuses to negotiate on core issues.
AHT is the only place where the under-served Indigenous community in Toronto can access culturally affirming care with staff who can meet their diverse needs. Indigenous peoples in Toronto continue to face poorer health conditions in mainstream healthcare and ongoing discrimination.
For years, these workers have continuously put community and high-quality healthcare at the forefront, while struggling with working conditions and wages that are not competitive workers - members of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 5115 - are calling on AHT's board and executive leadership to come to the table and negotiate a fair first contract immediately.
Members of the media are encouraged to arrive early.
