MEDIA ADVISORY - Gift announcement to support QEII orthopaedic surgical robot and research

HALIFAX, NS, Dec. 13, 2022  /CNW/ - On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, a corporate donor will announce a donation to the QEII Foundation to support an orthopaedic surgical robot and affiliated research at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. The ortho robot is the first in Atlantic Canada and only the second in Canada.

The Mako SmartRobotics system — a robotic arm controlled by a surgeon during hip and knee surgeries — is revolutionizing orthopaedic surgeries and providing better patient outcomes. The donation is a significant investment toward the $2.5-million project, which will be fully donor-funded by the QEII Foundation and its We Are Campaign.

The donation will be announced following a panel discussion with members of the QEII ortho robot team who perform the life-changing robotic surgeries and leading the cutting-edge research.
