Media Advisory - Government of Canada to announce marine conservation measures for Howe Sound Français
WEST VANCOUVER, BC, March 5, 2019 /CNW/ - The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, MP for West Vancouver — Sunshine Coast — Sea to Sky Country, will announce new measures to protect newly discovered glass sponge reefs in Howe Sound. Glass sponge reefs are unique to the waters of the Pacific Northwest and these Howe Sound reefs are some of the most biologically productive found to date. Their protection is another important step towards Canada's commitment to reach its conservation targets of protecting 10% of marine areas by 2020.
