TORONTO, Dec. 29, 2023 /CNW/ - Today marks 82 days of relentless indiscriminate bombing of Gaza which has killed 29,124 civilians including 11,422 children and wounded 56,122 civilians.
James Elder, the chief spokesperson for UNICEF describes this as a "war on children" with more than 40% of those killed and injured being children. More than 1000 children have lost one or more limbs. Ongoing bombing on Dec 24, 2023 targeted the Maghazi refugee camp in South Gaza which is densely inhabited by children and was sheltering people from North Gaza.
In addition to the continual bombardment the lack of access to food, water and medical care is resulting in deaths from starvation, dehydration and infections adding to the extreme suffering of children in Gaza.
CNN has released still images of a video showing Guantanamo-like detainment of men, women and children as young as ten years of age. These war crimes must be investigated and require international action and cessation of bombing is urgently required.
