OTTAWA, ON, Jan. 23, 2025 /CNW/ - Judges from the Supreme Court of Canada will visit Victoria, B.C., on February 3 and 4, 2025 as part of the Court's 150th anniversary commemorations.
Chief Justice Richard Wagner, Justice Andromache Karakatsanis and Justice Nicholas Kasirer will take part in various events involving members of the public, high school and university students, the local legal and judicial communities, and the media.
Journalists wishing to cover the visit should consult the schedule below to know which sessions are open to media.
Monday February 3
8:15 – Media Availability (open to media – preregistration is required)
Empress Hotel Library Room, 721 Government Street, Victoria, B.C.
Chief Justice Richard Wagner will make brief remarks and answer questions from journalists. The Chief Justice will be joined by Supreme Court Justices Andromache Karakatsanis and Nicholas Kasirer as well as the Chief Justice of British Columbia, Leonard Marchand.
Morning – Visit to the University of Victoria (closed to media)
Judges will meet with students and professors at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law.
3 p.m. – Public event: "Beyond the bench: a dialogue with Judges of the Supreme Court of Canada" (open to media)
Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street, Victoria, B.C.
Chief Justice Wagner and Justices Karakatsanis and Kasirer will answer questions from the public on a wide range of topics during this town-hall style event.
Evening – Event with the legal community (closed to media)
Judges will take part in an event with members of the local bench and bar.
Tuesday February 4
Morning – Meetings with members of the judiciary and visit to the Victoria Integrated Courthouse (closed to media)
Chief Justice Wagner and Justices Karakatsanis and Kasirer will participate in a discussion with members of the local judicial community and meet with justice system participants.
Mid-day – Meeting with Elders from Duncan First Nations Court (closed to media)
Afternoon – Visits to local secondary schools (closed to media)
The judges will meet with students at three local secondary schools and answer their questions on our judicial system.
