Media Advisory: Last major section of future HMCS Harry DeWolf to move outdoors at Halifax Shipyard
HALIFAX, Dec. 7, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The bow section of the future HMCS Harry DeWolf, the Royal Canadian Navy's first Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS), will be transported from inside the Halifax Shipyard's indoor shipbuilding facility outside to land level tomorrow morning, Dec. 8, 2017.
The bow mega-block will move to land level on heavy lift transporters. At land level it will be joined with the centre and stern sections to form the fully assembled ship. Further outfitting will continue at land level. The future HMCS Harry DeWolf is scheduled to be launched in summer 2018.
Irving Shipbuilding's more than 1,800 shipbuilders have been hard at work constructing the Royal Canadian Navy's future fleet as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The company will construct up to six AOPS followed by 15 Canadian Surface Combatants.
Media are not permitted on-site at the Halifax Shipyard during the transporting of the mega-blocks, as the shipyard will be an active production site. Media will be able to view the move from outside the perimeter of the Halifax Shipyard, at the north end of the facility.
