Media Advisory : Law Society presents honorary LLD to renowned expert in advocacy and leader in judicial education: The Honourable John I. Laskin Français
TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2021 /CNW/ - At the November 26, 2021 Convocation meeting the Law Society will present a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD) to the Honourable John I. Laskin, a renowned expert in advocacy and a leader in judicial education.
The Law Society awards honorary doctorates each year to distinguished individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice.
Mr. Laskin was called to the Bar in 1971. He practised civil and public law. He was the head of the litigation department at Davies, Ward and Beck from 1984 to 1994 and he was counsel to three royal commissions and three provincial inquiries. Following a distinguished career as a counsel, he was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 1994 and retired in 2018.
Throughout his career he has been a frequent speaker, lecturer and teacher — a renowned expert in advocacy and a leader in judicial education. Read the Gazette article about John I. Laskin.
