MEDIA ADVISORY - Law Society to present Honorary LLD to the Honourable Michael J. Moldaver at Call to the Bar ceremony Français
TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2022 /CNW/ - At the November 14, 2022 Call to the Bar ceremony, the Law Society of Ontario will present a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD) to former Supreme Court Justice Michael J. Moldaver, who has made a lasting mark on criminal law in Canada as a lawyer, teacher and jurist.
The Law Society awards honorary doctorates each year to distinguished individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice.
Soon after his call to the Bar in 1973, Justice Moldaver rose to prominence as one of Canada's leading criminal lawyers and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1985.
Justice Moldaver began his judicial career as a member of the High Court of Justice for Ontario when he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ontario (later the Ontario Court of Justice General Division) on April 12, 1990. He was elevated to the Court of Appeal for Ontario on December 22, 1995 and to the Supreme Court of Canada on October 21, 2011. He retired on September 1, 2022.
