Media advisory - Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrada to participate in the commemoration of the 50 years since the coup d'état in Chile Français
OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 8, 2023 /CNW/ - The honourable Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, will participate in the commemoration of the 50 years since the coup d'état in Chile, as representative of the Canadian Government.
During her visit to Chile, Minister Martinez Ferrada is invited to participate in the official ceremonies led by President Gabriel Boric. She will be joined by high level representatives from other countries, including:
- Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa
- President Luis Lacalle Pou (Uruguay)
- President Gustavo Petro (Colombia)
- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (México)
Minister Martinez Ferrada will also meet with Chilean ministers, including her counterpart Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Hon. Nicolás Grau, to discuss bilateral relations in those areas.
On the occasion, she will visit the "Daughters of Exile" exhibit at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM), where some of the artists will share their stories and narratives, illustrated through patchwork and burlap, of being Chileans who were either born or raised overseas as a result of the events of September 1973 in Chile. This exhibit highlights works from two Chilean-Canadian women.
