Media Advisory - News Conference at Queen's Park: Hospital professionals speak out about dire staffing crisis
TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2022 /CNW/ - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/SEFPO) will be holding a news conference at Queen's Park on Wednesday to discuss the hospital staffing crisis and the solutions that exist within Ontario's public health care system that are being overlooked by the Ford government.
Ontario's hospitals are facing severe labour shortages in every profession, from lab technologists to physiotherapists to cardiovascular perfusionists. The union is calling on the Ford government to take immediate action within the public hospital system to resolve the mass exodus of hospital professionals, reduce the long wait times, and prevent emergency room closures, rather than creating a two-tiered health care system which would only worsen staff shortages and patient outcomes.
OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer Laurie Nancekivell, Chair of the OPSEU/SEFPO Hospital Professionals Division Sara Labelle, and NDP Health Critic and MPP for Nickel Belt France Gélinas, will be available to speak with the media.
