MEDIA ADVISORY - Northwestern Ontario OPSEU members hit the road in the "Families Know Best Voyage" in support of autism and special services
THUNDER BAY, ON, April 22, 2019 /CNW/ - Northwestern Ontario OPSEU members are about to make their first stop on the "Families Know Best Voyage" to support crucial autism and other special services for families in the region.
The voyage launched in Thunder Bay last week and stops at Progressive Conservative MPP Greg Rickford's constituency office in Fort Frances tomorrow. OPSEU members will also make stops at Rickford's other constituency offices in Kenora and Dryden later this week before wrapping up back in Thunder Bay.
OPSEU members want to meet with Rickford and want a commitment from him that he will stand up for his constituents at Queen's Park and fight for an increase in frontline workers and special services in the region. OPSEU members will also be fund raising for the Thunder Bay Family Network as the voyage continues.
"Doug Ford and Lisa MacLeod don't understand the unique struggles that families in northwestern Ontario face in getting their kids the services they need," says OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "Many families have to travel long distances to get autism and other services for their kids – if they are even able to access the services at all."
