WINDSOR, ON, Oct. 9, 2024 /CNW/ - An information picket will be hosted during the lunch hour for the public to learn more about what is at stake if Windsor-Essex County Health Unit does not negotiate a fair new collective agreement with our nurses.
More than 75 nurses at Windsor Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) are heading into their second round of conciliation this week after making slight progress earlier in September. These Registered Nurses and Registered Practical nurses, members of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA), are some of Ontario's lowest paid nurses in public health. They are fighting to secure fair scheduling and equitable wages from their Employer. They deserve the recognition for the value and skill they bring to residents in the community.
Lack of flexibility and compensation are driving factors for nurses leaving the sector. Nurses are asking the public to show their support, as they tell the employer that their needs must be met to continue providing high-quality and specialized care to the community.
WHAT: Information picket to raise awareness about WECHU nurses bargaining
WHO: ONA Regional Vice President Alan Warrington and front-line WECHU nurses
WHERE: 1005 Oullette Ave., Windsor, ON
WHEN: Wednesday, October 9th 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing students, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
