TORONTO, Jan. 28, 2025 /CNW/ - Registered nurses (RNs), health-care professionals, labour leaders, community groups and allies will hold an all-out rally tomorrow in downtown Toronto to demand RN-to-patient staffing ratios in public hospitals, so patients can get the care they need, when they need it.
Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) members and supporters will be rallying outside the Toronto Hilton Hotel to pressure hospital chief executive officers (CEOs) to negotiate registered nurse staffing ratios.
Mediation between ONA and the Ontario Hospital Association, representing hospital CEOs, is underway at the hotel. ONA is seeking a new contract for the province's 60,000+ hospital nurses and health-care professionals.
Safe levels of nurse staffing is the top bargaining priority for ONA's hospital members, who are fighting to improve access to timely, high-quality care and to stop hospital CEOs from working with Ford Conservatives, funnelling taxpayer dollars to private clinics, draining the coffers of our public system.
ONA is the union representing 68,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
