Education Minister Liz Sandals has initiated a consultation on the future of four demonstration schools, including Trillium Demonstration School, as well as one provincial school, Robarts School for the Deaf.
Parents, staff and union representatives fear that the consultation is a mere formality before shuttering the five schools, which cater to the needs of some of the most vulnerable children in the province.
The other schools included in the consultation are the Centre Jules-Léger in Ottawa; Amethyst Demonstration School in London; and Sagonaska Demonstration School in Belleville.
