MEDIA ADVISORY - Release of new report on Child and Family Poverty
TORONTO, Dec. 7, 2020 /CNW/ - Child poverty rates across Canada are flatlining in some regions, and increasing in Atlantic Canada, a new report from Campaign 2000 shows. Campaign 2000 will release its annual National Report Card on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. The media release and full report will be available at www.campaign2000.ca as of 12 p.m. EST.
This year's report focuses on the impacts of poverty and inequality on vulnerable families during the worst global pandemic in recent history. Despite investments like the Canada Child Benefit and achievement of some metrics outlined in the national Poverty Reduction Strategy, vulnerable families have not been set up to weather the COVID-19 storm.
The national report card is released in coordination with provincial and, for the first time ever this year, territorial report cards from partners in the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Regional spokespeople will be available for comment, and in both official languages. Please visit www.campaign2000.ca for further details and more information.
Campaign 2000 is a non-partisan, cross-Canada network of 120 national, provincial and community partner organizations committed to working to end child and family poverty that is hosted by Family Service Toronto. For all of Campaign 2000's report cards, visit http://www.campaign2000.ca.
