Media Advisory - Safety inspectors to picket TSSA during Annual Public Meeting: employer scores "F" for public safety
TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2022 /CNW/ - Striking safety inspectors will hold a picket line outside the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) headquarters, where the employer is scheduled to hold TSSA's Annual "Public" Meeting.
The meeting comes as the TSSA tries to dodge their responsibility for the strike by safety inspectors and an ever-increasing backlog of elevator inspections that has resulted in elevator shutdowns and delays across the province.
The TSSA Annual Meeting was originally scheduled to take place in-person, but the regulatory authority changed it to a virtual meeting, where they can avoid questions about the strike and the elevator backlog.
The 170 safety inspectors of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 546 are trying to negotiate their first contract with the TSSA. The inspectors were forced to go on strike July 21 after their employer walked away from the bargaining table.
