MEDIA ADVISORY - ShakeOut BC to hold virtual drill on October 15, 2020
VICTORIA, BC, Oct. 7, 2020 /CNW/ - The COVID-19 pandemic means BC residents are adapting to living and working in different ways, yet earthquakes are still happening – and so is ShakeOut BC!
ShakeOut BC is a chance to practice how to be safe when the earth shakes. By practicing the Drop, Cover, and Hold on response, we create muscle memory which helps people react quickly by getting to a safe space during an earthquake.
You can ShakeOut at home, work, school or even through a video conference with your colleagues.
Media are invited to connect with our seismologists (Dr. John Cassidy and Alison Bird) to learn more about:
- ShakeOut BC and the Drop, Cover and Hold On virtual drill
- An overall view of earthquakes in British Columbia
- Being prepared for an earthquake in a COVID-19 context
- The reduction in "seismic noise" as a result of people working from home
Date: October 8th, 9th or 13th
Time: By appointment
Where: Virtually or in person (physically distanced) in Victoria
