OTTAWA, March 21, 2017 /CNW/ - Students are available to comment in the lead-up to, and immediately following, the release of the 2017 Federal Budget.
The Canadian Federation of students is looking for meaningful changes to reduce the up-front cost of pursuing a skilled trade or attending college or university and action to address mounting student debt. The Federation is expecting the Government to mends its broken promise to Indigenous learners by immediately investing in the Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP).
THE FACTS:
- An estimated 10,000 Indigenous learners are awaiting funding to pursue an education
- Total public student debt in Canada has surpassed $28 billion
- From 2001 to 2016, tuition fee revenues tripled in the university sector and more than double at community colleges
- 70% of new job openings require some for of post-secondary education training
