Media advisory - The Governor General will present Decorations for Bravery during a ceremony at Rideau Hall Français
OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 22, 2024 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will present 40 Decorations for Bravery during a ceremony that will be held at Rideau Hall on October 24, 2024.
The Decorations for Bravery are among Canada's most prestigious civilian honours. The Decorations for Bravery offer three levels of recognition: the Cross of Valour (C.V.), the Star of Courage (S.C.), and the Medal of Bravery (M.B.). One Cross of Valour, one Star of Courage and 38 Medals of Bravery will be awarded during the ceremony.
The Cross of Valour is Canada's highest civilian honour. Since its creation in 1972, it has only been awarded 20 times.

About the Decorations for Bravery
In 1972, Queen Elizabeth II established a series of medals recognizing courageous acts. Over the last 50 years, governors general have awarded Decorations for Bravery to nearly 4 000 recipients—from Canada and abroad, civilians and uniformed personnel, living and deceased—in recognition of acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances that range from potential drownings and vehicle accidents to animal attacks and burning buildings.
