Media Advisory: The world's leading event in statistics and data science is coming to Ottawa Français
OTTAWA, ON , July 11, 2023 /CNW/ - From July 16 to 20, 2023, the International Statistical Institute (ISI) expects to host more than 1,500 people from over 120 countries at the Shaw Centre, in Ottawa, for the 64th World Statistics Congress.
Statistics Canada is proudly participating in this world-leading congress through countless presentations and is supporting the organization of the event in the heart of the National Capital Region. Journalists are invited to attend the following:
- the opening ceremony on July 16, starting at 4:00 p.m., which includes
- the Honourable Jenna Sudds, Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth
- Stephen Penneck, ISI President
- Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada
- cultural performances
- presentations for international awards and recognition
- the closing ceremony on July 20, starting at 5:00 p.m., which includes
- the Honourable Colin Deacon, Senator

The event will feature the following:
- Professor Robert M. Groves, invited speaker and worldwide expert in the field of statistics, previously the Director of the United States Census Bureau and currently Provost of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
- over 250 premium sessions given by international scientists and leaders in the field
- Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada, chairing a session on Transformation in the National Statistical Organizations and presenting at two sessions: Transformational Innovations for Creating Official Statistics and Statistics and False Facts.
Opening ceremony: July 16, 2023—Media registration opens at 3:00 p.m.
Closing ceremony: July 20, 2023—Media registration opens at 4:00 p.m.

Members of the media are invited to register in advance by email and are required to report to the registration table on level 2 of the Shaw Centre upon arrival and present their media accreditation.
The event coverage is open to journalists (print, radio, television, film, news agencies and online media) who are on assignment with a bona fide media organization.
Journalists who do not work for a media organization will have to provide proof of recent publications under their byline that can be readily found in the public realm.
